Ulla Tørnæs is new minister for Higher Education and Science

Ulla Tørnæs has been appointed minister for the Ministry of Higher Education and Science 29 February 2016.

Ulla Tørnæs replaced Esben Lunde Larsen who has been appointed minister for Environment and Food.

Ulla Tørnæs has been a member of the Danish Parliament from 1994 to 2014 for the Liberal Party. Since 2014 she has been member of the European Parliament for the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe

Ulla Tørnæs has previous experience as minister as she was minister for Education from 2001 to 2005 and minister for Development Cooperation from 2005 to 2010.

At the handover ceremony in the Ministry of Higher Education and Science Ulla Tørnæs said that as the new Minister for Higher Education and Science, she is looking forward to working again with an area "that is extremely important to Danish society".

- It is an area very close to my heart... It is vital that we provide young people in particular with the knowledge and foundation needed to allow them to traverse the labour market and wider world, says Minister for Higher Education and Science Ulla Tørnæs.

Ulla Tørnæs will begin her work in the ministerial post with immediate effect.
