Denmark and South Korea collaborate on research, innovation and education

May 11, 2012
The Danish higher education minister is visiting South Korea to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on research, innovation and higher education between the two countries.

A cooperative agreement between the Higher Education Ministry and the South Korean Science Ministry will pave the way for student exchanges, joint research projects, reciprocal researcher exchanges, scientific workshops and conferences in both countries.

The memorandum will strengthen bilateral relations even further between Denmark and South Korea.

Higher Education Minister Morten Østergaard will sign the agreement at a ceremony in South Korea on 15 May. The ceremony will take place during the meeting of the Danish-Korean Green Growth Alliance, where the Danish Crown Prince and Princess, the trade and investment minister, Pia Olsen Dyhr and minister for business and growth, Ole Sohn, will also participate.

Ambitious innovation effort

During the visit, the higher education minister will get a thorough insight into South Korea’s targeted and ambitious innovation strategy that has helped the country become a global leader in many fields, and especially within research and development.

– The cooperative agreement will give us the opportunity to inject new knowledge into Danish research and education. It will also provide the opportunity to work with some of the world’s best researchers in the field of green technology. The visit also gives us the chance to learn more about South Korea’s strong and targeted innovation effort, which could inspire our own national innovation strategy in Denmark. I am looking forward to some inspiring and educational days in South Korea, says Morten Østergaard.

In addition to meeting with South Korea’s science minister, the Korea Research Council of Fundamental Science and Technology, and Korean Green Technology Center, Morten Østergaard will visit Seoul National University, Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, SK Innovation, and the Haja Center.

The higher education minister will visit South Korea from 14 to 16 May.
