More higher education applications than ever before

July 05, 2015
Applications for higher education reached new heights with figures showing more than 90,000 applicants. Minister for Higher Education and Science Esben Lunde Larsen hopes than many young people have applied to programmes across the country where there are good job prospects.

A tally shows that 92,477 people have applied to higher education programmes in 2015 following the application deadline of noon on 05 July. It is the highest ever number of applicants.

Minister for Higher Education and Science Esben Lunde Larsen is pleased by the high numbers of applicants.

- Education provides the individual with freedom and more opportunities. I am quite pleased that so many young people have applied to higher education as Danish companies and the public sector also need a qualified workforce.

A full report of the applications to individual programmes and institutions will be compiled tomorrow and the minister looks forward to its publication:

- It is not enough to look at the number of applicants. It is important to see if young people have applied to fields where there is a labour market demand. This is especially true of programmes that are aimed at the private sector, says Esben Lunde Larsen.
