The international evaluation of the Danish research and innovations system has been conducted by the European Research Area Committee, ERAC.

The so-called ERA C peer-review points out that even though the Danish research and innovation system is performing well, improvements could still be made. For instance Danish innovation policy should focus more on solving societal challenges, and the funding system should be simplified.

The expert recommendations have served as guidance in outlining the national innovations strategy “Denmark - a Nation of Solutions”. Subsequently, this has been followed by the initiation of a number of new public-private partnerships on innovation, and by the creation of The Innovation Fund Denmark replacing a number of previous funding bodies.
