SPIR - Strategic Platforms for Innovation and Research

The SPIR initiative has been introduced to make it more attractive for businesses to participate in research and development activities with Danish universities, technological service institutes, other enterprises and innovation agents.

The Danish Council for Strategic Research and The Danish Council for Technology and Innovation has in 2013 granted DKK 64 million to a Strategic Research and Innovation Platform within Future production systems.

The aim is to create the foundation for a cooperation model where the industry and business world cooperate with universities etc. in the planning and implementation of research activities.

It is further the intention to create strong international research and innovation fora in Denmark, which will help attract highly qualified candidates to the country.

The hope is to secure a significant volume for the platform. The Danish Council for Strategic Research and The Danish Council for Technology and Innovation contribute with approx. DKK 64 million, and the other involved parties will be required a self financing.

The SPIR calls was announced on 5 March 2013. The application process was divided into 2 phases, and ended in December with the announcement of the awarded funds.
