Denmark - Israel: A Bilateral R&D and Innovation Cooperation

The overall objective of the bilateral cooperation between Israel and Denmark is to promote industrial R&D cooperation in high tech areas, especially sectors of life-science, ICT, and Energy & Environment.

Israel – a 2nd Silicon Valley?

Since Israel for little more than a decade has grown into a high-tech powerhouse, which has spurred high GDP growth of the past few years, Israel has become an interesting partner for Denmark. With its high level of human capital and traditions of international cooperation, Israel is increasingly to be recognized as a player on the global scene and as a relevant and important cooperation partner for Denmark.

The Israeli framework conditions for innovation have furthered a fertile ground for international cooperation. In order to encourage contacts between Israel and overseas companies to facilitate joint ventures in R&D, manufacturing and marketing, the Israeli government has encouraged engagement in bilateral R&D cooperation agreements as well as multi-lateral cooperation programmes.

According to the international World Competitive Index, Israel is ranked globally as:

  • number three in regards to entrepreneurship
  • number two in relation to the quality of university education
  • number one in relation to R&D investments
  • globally, Israel has one of the highest per-capita rates of patents filed.
