About the publication

The occasion for this newspaper is the Europe INNOVA 2012 conference in Copenhagen on 23-24 October. At the conference, Europe's achievements to promote an encourage innovation are discussed under the headline: Are we good enough at this?

Every year, the EU, its member states, regions and cities spend billions in subsidies on promoting research, development and innovation in the private sector. In brief, the hope is that European enterprises through the innovation programmes become better at creating more growth, jobs, and new, useful products.

Europe INNOVA 2012 focuses on three themes:

  • SME innovation support
  • Commercial exploitation of university research
  • Building clusters, i.e. groups of enterprises collaborating for a common good within their specific field of business.

In this newspaper the spotlight is on good examples from all over Europe where enterprises have profited from innovation programmes. But just as the conference itself, this newspaper asks: What can we do better in Europe?

The conference is hosted by the Danish Ministry for Research, Innovation and Higher Education in collaboration with the European Commission Directorate General for Enterprise and Industry. The newspaper is financed by the European Commission Directorate General for Enterprise and Industry and the Danish Council for Technology and Innovation. The Council advises the Danish government on innovation and administers public innovation programmes with an annual budget of DKK 1 billion (approx. 130 million euro).
