The mission of FET is to turn Europe's excellent science base into a competitive advantage. FET actions are expected to initiate radically new technology through unexplored collaborations between advanced multidisciplinary science and cutting-edge engineering.

Who can Apply?

Universities, other research institutions (eg GTS institutes), small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and large enterprises. The programme may also be relevant for national, regional and local authorities, hospitals, NGOs, trade associations and professional colleges.

Main Areas in the Programme

  • FET Open supports research in visionary technology in all technology areas
  • FET Innovation Launchpad scheme aims at turning results from FET-funded projects into genuine societal or economic innovations. The funded proposals are short individual or collaborative actions focused on the non-scientific aspects and the early stages of an innovation idea.

  • FET Proactive supports research in visionary technology in pre-selected areas. The work programme for 2014-15 the pre-selevted areas are among others: "Exascale High Performance Computing" and "Quantum Simulation"
  • FET Flagships are large, science-driven research initiatives. There are currently two ongoing FET Flagship projects selected in January 2013: Graphene and the HumanBrainProject. These are both large, long-term projects with a broad range of participants. It is expected that each flagship will have a budget of up to 50 million euro a year in a ten-year period.

Under Horizon 2020, FET actions have been allocated a provisional budget of 2 696 million euro.

Requirements for Applicants

A project consortium must be composed of at least three legal entities from three different EU Member States or associated countries.
