Arctic Circle

The Arctic Circle Conference is held annualy in Reykjavik, Iceland. t is an open democratic platform with participation from decision makers, researchers, business people and others interested in the development of the Arctic.

Arctic Circle 2017

In 2017, the Ministry of Higher Education and Science and the Forum for Arctic Research hosts a number of actvities at the Arctic Circle Conference. This is a part of the ministry's Strategy for Research and Education concerning the Arctic.

Apart from coordinating a booth, representing all Arctic research stations within the Kingdom, there will be a Plenary Sessions and several breaktout sessions.

Plenary Session: New Opportunities. From Research to Practice

On the second day of the Conference, 14th October at 9.40 a.m., three Ministers representing each country in the Kingdom, researchers and representatives from the business sector, will discuss how research kan contribute to the development ofthe Arctic.

  • Frits Köster, Director, National Institute of Aquatic Resources, Technical University of Denmark
  • Jens Hesselbjerg Christensen, Professor, Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen
  • Peter Bjerregaard, Professor, National Institute of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark
  • Anne Merrild Hansen, Associate Professor, Department of Planning, Aalborg University 
  • Minik Rosing, Professor, The Natural History Museum of Denmark/chairman, Ilisimatusarfik (University of Greenland)
  • Maliina Abelsen, Chief Commercial Officer, Air Greenland

The debate will be moderated by Professor Katherine Richardson, Natural History Museum of Denmark.

Apart from the plenary session, the members of Forum for Arctic Research has also planned several Breakout sessions during the conference. Trough private funding, it has been possible to etasblish a Young Scientists Programme, hosted at the University of the Faroe Islands.
