Polar Research Activities

Below you find a short description of and links to activities within the area of polar research.

Eskimology and Arctic studies

The subject Eskimology includes the entire Arctic region with special focus on the Inuit people (Inuit, yupiit and Aleut) in Greenland, Canada, Alaska and Russia, with Greenland as the primary weight.

UArctic

The University of the Arctic (UArctic) is a cooperative network of over 150 universities, colleges, and other organisations committed to higher education and research in the North. The members share resources, facilities, and expertise to build post-secondary education programmes that are relevant and accessible to northern students.

The overall goal is to create a strong, sustainable circumpolar region by empowering northerners and northern communities through education and shared knowledge.

The Danish Agency for Science and Higher Education cooperates with UArctic about funding projects related to research and educational activities in and about the Arctic. UArctic members from Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands can apply for Funding through advertised calls.

Zackenberg Research Station

Zackenberg Research Station is a Greenlandic research infrastructure in high arctic Northeast Greenland, 25 km northwest of the settlement Daneborg, a military outpost with twelve inhabitants.

Zackenberg Research Station is operated by the Zackenberg Secretariat at the Department of Bioscience, Aarhus University. The objective of the station is to facilitate ecosystem research in the High Arctic.

Arctic Station

The University of Copenhagen maintains and funds the Arctic Station in order to promote Arctic research and university level education within all aspects of environmental science.
