Danish researchers boosted by DKK 3.7 billion in EU funding for research and innovation
Danish researchers and companies have been successful in securing EU funding for research and innovation projects. Since 2014, 825 projects with Danish participants were boosted by almost DKK 3.7 billion or 2.52 per cent of competitive funds from Horizon 2020.
Since March 2016, the area of information and communication technology (ICT) has seen DKK 160 million granted in funding to Danish researchers and companies. Projects funded include ones that can help children with autism, and ones that can improve SMEs competitiveness through increased automation. The ICT area has attracted a total of DKK 364 million in funding.
Minister for Higher Education and Science Søren Pind is very pleased with the results:
- The many millions that Denmark has secured in funding from the EU are not only an important boost for Danish researchers and companies. It is also important for growth across the whole country. I know that EU funding is extremely competitive, and the significant Danish success in this area is testament to Danish researchers and companies being among the absolute elite, says Minister for Higher Education and Science Søren Pind.
DKK 1.25 billion for the best ideas
Denmark performs very well when it comes to securing support for projects borne from researchers and companies own ideas.
The Marie Sklodowska-Curie programme in particular provides good support for Danish researcher mobility and career development. For example, the programme provides the opportunity to attract talented researchers from abroad with excellent research ideas. Denmark also preforms well with regard to ground-breaking research projects supported by the European Research Council (ERC). Denmark has received DKK 1.25 billion in funding from these two programmes.
About Horizon 2020
