Joint effort to attract the best international students

New common guidelines for higher education institutions will create a better overview and make Denmark more attractive as an education destination for international students. The Minister for Higher Education and Science has praised the joint effort of the institutions.

Danish higher education programmes now have a new common instrument for helping attract the most talented students from around the world.

On 1 September 2015, Danish higher education institutions launched Denmark's first common set of guidelines for offering education programmes to international students, in the form of a Code of Conduct.

The Code of Conduct contains easily accessible and understandable information about legislation, rights and opportunities associated with the higher education programmes.

Minister for Higher Education and Science Esben Lunde Larsen has praised the joint effort of the institutions.

- The education systems of different countries can be difficult to understand. These new common guidelines will encourage students to choose Denmark by providing them with an overview of Danish educational institutions and the high quality of the programmes. Danish companies have made it clear that they will lack a highly qualified workforce in the future. These common guidelines are an important tool in tackling that challenge, says Esben Lunde Larsen.

Higher education institutions have previously had different best practice guidelines for offering programmes to international students, while maritime, artistic and cultural education institutions have never had a Code of Conduct.

The guidelines are also a preventative instrument, as they provide information about rules and regulations e.g. about the level of requirement for the potential student’s commitment to course activitiesdedicated study time required and the potential under which circumstances for a residence permit to would be revoked

The new Code of Conduct

  • The Danish  Agency for Higher Education, together with the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment, has taken part in a working group comprising representatives from all Danish education institutions.
  • The joint effort will ensure that the new guidelines can be used as an effective recruitment tool for talented international students, collaborative partners and representatives.

The new Code of Conduct is available in Danish and English on UFM.dk, StudyinDenmark.dk and the individual institution websites.
