More than 60,000 quota 2 applications

60,718 people have chosen to apply to be accepted to higher education programmes via quota 2 before the application deadline today. This is the highest number ever, and 3,286 more than last year, when a record number of people applied for a place in higher education.

This year, 60,718 people have applied for a place in higher education via quota 2 before the application deadline expired at 12:00 today. That is 3,286 more than last year, corresponding to an increase of 6 percent. This year, however, just as last year, extra study places have been created. The government, with the full backing of Parliament, allocated a total of DKK 210 million to finance the creation of 6,000 extra study places in 2020 and 2021.

- I am so happy that so many young people are applying for higher education despite these unfamiliar and difficult times. One thing is certain: no matter how the future shapes up, education will always be one of the best investments you can make in life. We can now see that the right decision was made last year, when a unanimous Parliament allocated funds for the creation of 2,000 extra study places for the upcoming admission period, comments the Minister for Higher Education and Science, Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen.

Quota 2 is for applicants who wish to be assessed on the basis of something other than the average of their high school grades when applying for a place in higher education. This means that they typically apply on the basis of other experience gained after the standard period of education. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has made precisely this type of experience more difficult to gain for your CV.

- The Corona situation has meant that many applicants have been challenged to meet certain quota 2 requirements. This is not an easy situation. Conversely, it is important to keep in mind that a large number of applicants find themselves in the same situation. During the past year, it has been harder for everyone to attend a folk high school, go on a study trip abroad or get a relevant job, adds the Minister for Higher Education and Science,  Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen.

The total number of applicants for a place in higher education this year will be announced on 5 July 2021, when the deadline for applying via quota 1 expires.

All applicants in both quota 1 and quota 2 will be informed of the result of their application on 28 July 2021.

Concerning applications and admissions in 2021:

  • 15 March 2021: Deadline for quota 2 applications, as well as for applicants applying with foreign qualifications and applicants to study programmes that require an entrance examination or interview.
  • 5 July 2021: Deadline for quota 1 applications. The total number of applicants for higher education may thus be calculated.
  • 28 July 2021: All applicants will be informed of the result of their application.

Concerning applications and admissions in 2020

By the end of the application deadline on 22 March 2020, 57,432 people had applied for admission to a place in higher education. Last year, the total application number of applicants under both quotas 1 and 2 was 94,599. A total of 69,526 people were admitted to higher education.
