DKK 770 million for new research and innovation

November 08, 2012
The Government, the Red-Green Alliance and Liberal Alliance have reached an agreement on new funding for strategic research within food, the environment, health, production research and independent research and innovation in 2013.

The Government, the Red-Green Alliance and Liberal Alliance have agreed on the allocation of DKK 770 million for new initiatives within research and innovation in 2013.

Higher Education Minister Morten Østergaard is pleased with the agreement.

– I am pleased that we reached a successful agreement on the allocation of DKK 770 million for research with a broad majority. The agreement provides a solid starting point for ambitions that would see Danish research contributing to the response to global challenges and creating growth, says Higher Education Minister Morten Østergaard (Social Liberals).

The agreement ensures new funding to strategic research within the fields of food, the environment, health and production research, as well as independent research and innovation.

Pernille Skipper (Red-Green Alliance) says:

– We are particularly pleased that we, with this agreement, can support independent research with DKK 163 million. Likewise we have secured the important organic research, which otherwise faced losing a lot of funding.

Mette Bock (Liberal Alliance) says:

– In Liberal Alliance we are very pleased that the Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation and Danish food research have been taken into account. This is research that forms the foundation for renewed growth in a sector with large exports and employment.

With the allocation of the research reserve, the public research budget will amount to DKK 20.2 billion in 2013, equal to 1.07% of GDP.
