Agreement on distribution of research and innovation funds
On 30 October, the Danish government reached agreement with all parliamentary parties on the allocation of DKK 857 million from the research reserve.
Minister for Higher Education and Science Sofie Carsten Nielsen states:
- We have achieved a really good result with broad support. The agreement will ensure growth and employment in Denmark, because research and innovation are crucial to Denmark’s future.
Innovation Fund Denmark will receive funds that reflect a continued high level of ambition.
Meanwhile a number of successful programmes and institutions in the research and innovation area will be continued. The agreement is not just focused on research that directly affects growth and employment but also on other important research areas.
- It is important that we look at the area of psychiatry. Psychiatric disorders account for quite a large share of the overall health situation and we have a goal of placing psychiatry on an equal footing with physical illnesses. It is therefore a position sign that DKK 30 million has been allocated to psychiatric research in both 2015 and 2016, says Minister for Higher Education and Science Sofie Carsten Nielsen.
Furthermore, funding has been set aside for research into children’s schooling so there can be a better understanding of the very different conditions needed for children to learn. This will ensure a good educaiton and daycare system as well as helping the more vulnerable in Danish society.
