52,891 applicants have submitted higher education applications by this year’s noon deadline on 15 March via the quota system. There are 1,484 fewer applicants than last year, corresponding to a decrease of 3 per cent.

- They are the talents that will bolster Denmark in the future. So it is satisfying to see that many have applied to higher education. It will be interesting to see which education programmes they have applied to. I hope that the young people have taken into consideration a combination of passion and consideration for graduate job opportunities, says Minister for Higher Education and Science Søren Pind.

The quota 2 system is for higher education applicants who are assessed on other criteria than their grade point average from high school education. The final applicant figures for quota 2 will be tallied next week.

The overall number of higher education applicants in 2018 will be published in July when the deadline for applications via the quota 1 system has passed.

Facts

About applying via quota 2

All higher education applicants have applied via the optagelse.dk portal. The number of quota 2 applicants is a preliminary calculation. The final applicant figures will be known next week when those who e.g. applied without using NemID, are included in the tally.
Developments in the number of applicants via quota 2 are not necessarily an indicator for the overall applicant numbers to higher education. In the quota 2 system, applicants are accepted based on criteria determined by the individual educational institution.
