Minister for Higher Education and Science extends the possibility for extra SU loans

April 23, 2020
Minister for Higher Education and Science Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen is extending the extraordinary period of SU loans to July. This opportunity allows students on youth education and higher education programmes to apply for extra loans in connection with the COVID-19 situation.

In light of the continuing COVID-19 situation, the MInister for Higher Education and Science Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen is extending the extraordinary SU loan period, which allows for increased SU loans and SU completion loans, to also cover May and June 2020. The proposal has broad support among the parliamentary parties.

- It is important that politically, we provide security with regard to students’ finances. Many students are under pressure at the moment, and there is no need for unnecessary concern about having enough money in their account to pay for rent, electricity, etc. in the coming months. We know that many young people are under psychological strain and financial pressure because of the situation we find ourselves in. Therefore, we are extending the period of extraordinary extra SU loans, until July for now. We are also following the situation closely to see if it is necessary to extend further, says Minister for Higher Education and Science Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen.

The extension in May and June will include the following SU areas: Extra SU loans for students receiving SU, extra SU completion loans for students completing their higher education programme, and extra SU loans for higher education students in paid internships in May and June 2020.
