University and Research Policy Report 1998
: 1999
About the publication
Research and its results play a vital role in modern society -in cultural life, industry, education and welfare. The research institutions must therefore constantly meet current challenges and demands in order to retain their dynamism and value in society.
This report to the Danish Parliament on Denmark's university and research policy deals particularly with the role of the universities. The Government wants to promote renewal and drive within both research and education at the individual university by opening the way for new and more flexible forms of governance. These must rest on a foundation of autonomy, with each university setting its own level of ambition in a binding performance contract. Such contracts will give the universities greater freedom of action and scope for ambitious development, including the possibility of fulfilling their objectives through external cooperation.
