EUREKA is a mean to realise the European Research Area (ERA), in line with both national and international policy objectives.

From a Danish perspective, EUREKA Denmark is a means to reap the advantages of international cooperation for both funding agencies and research performers in the private and public sector in Denmark.

EUREKA is set apart primarily through its efforts to coordinate national funds for R&D at the international level. Unlike the European Framework Programmes, EUREKA has no common pot, and relies fully on national funds.
