Assessment Criteria

Nominees must have made a significant impact by founding or enabling knowledge-based start-ups or scale-ups. They should have played a central role in establishing or supporting innovative businesses rooted in research, helping to turn ideas into tangible ventures.

The nominated start-ups or scale-ups must have demonstrated a high level of innovation - whether through novel products, processes, or business models - and successfully translated scientific knowledge into commercial solutions. Their work should show strong scaling potential, including the ability to attract investment and foster growth. It will be considered an advantage if the innovations involve critical technologies as defined by the European Commission.

The nominated start-ups or scale-ups must have delivered - or clearly demonstrate potential to deliver - lasting societal impact. This may involve advances within areas such as climate, digitalisation, health, demography, or security, and can be evidenced by measurable outcomes like improved practices, economic value, or quality of life.
