In March 2011 a researcher brought a complaint before the DCSD claiming scientific dishonesty, as the researcher's contribution to the research leading to the article was not acknowledged in the article. In addition the researcher claimed that two authors of the article had failed to disclose a possible conflict of interest.

In November 2010 a university, where the defendant had performed the research in question, submitted a complaint to the DCSD claiming that the mice described in the article could not have existed.
