Denmark – Japan

Japan is the world's third largest economy and one of the world's most high-tech countries. Over the past 20 years, there has been a steady increase in Danish-Japanese research collaboration. Particularly in fields such as physics, astronomy, biology, information science and medicine.

Japan is a strong research and technology nation, with massive investment in research and development from both the private and public sectors. Japan is an attractive cooperation country for Denmark, and especially for Danish universities, as the level of education is high and there are excellent research institutions and high-tech companies.

To support and strengthen this cooperation, the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science (UFM) signed a cooperation agreement with the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in April 2018.

UFM's activities in Japan are driven by demand from Danish research and innovation actors. UFM's focus is also on complementing the work and activities of other ministries through their posted sector advisors. UFM is also interested in strengthening bilateral cooperation under the Horizon Europe programme, the EU's framework programme for research and innovation for the years 2021-27.
