54,279 people have applied for a place in higher education via quota 2
Before the application deadline at 12 noon today, 51,944 people had applied for a place in higher education via quota 2. This marks a 4 pct. increase in applications compared to last year, an increase especially due to a rise in applications to bachelor programmes at universities.
Concerning the four major professional degree programmes in the welfare sector, applications to Nursing have risen slightly; applications to Social Education, Social Work and Teaching programmes have fallen, though less markedly than the decline shown by last year's quota 2 applications.
Applications to STEM programmes, which cover degree programmes in subjects such as engineering, IT and mathematical subjects, have increased: compared to last year's quota 2 applications, STEM programmes show a 12 pct. increase in applications.
The Minister for Higher Education and Science, Christina Egelund, comments:
- I am delighted to see that there have been so many applicants for higher education, but I am naturally concerned that applications for Social Education and Social Work continue to decline, and that applications for Nursing and Teaching are not showing any significant improvement on the low levels of previous years. This calls for action, and it is a trend we need to reverse. On the other hand, I think there is reason to be very satisfied by the fact that more applicants have chosen to pursue STEM.
Facts:
- The number of applicants refers to the number of first-priority applicants. This means that applicants are only counted in relation to the programme they have applied for as their first priority.
- Quota 2 applicants are assessed on the basis of factors other than average High School grade scores alone. Educational institutions award places after an individual assessment of each applicant, applying selection criteria that differ from programme to programme.
-
Applicants without a Danish High School average grade score are also obliged to apply before the quota 2 application deadline.
The total number of applicants for higher education programmes will be published on 5 July, 2024, which is the deadline for applying for admission via quota 1. - Quota 1 applicants are only evaluated on the basis of their grade score average.
- All applicants, both under quota 1 and quota 2, will receive a reply to their applications on 26 July.
