About the talk "Destination Moon" by Bérengère Houdou, the European Space Agency (ESA)

Recent discoveries and plans to send humans beyond Low Earth Orbit again have returned our Moon to the spotlight. There are many reasons to land and explore new lunar locations, especially the Moon’s polar regions. Reaching the Moon, despite it being our closest neighbour is not easy and different approaches to those used in the past are desired – more autonomous, more precise and safer – requiring we develop innovative new technologies. In the last years ESA has teamed with private industry and institutes from all over Europe to develop robotic technologies and experiments for lunar exploration: the so-called PILOT system for landing and PROSPECT for investigating resources on the Moon’s surface. They will be used first on the Russian lunar lander planned for launch by the end of the decade. In parallel, ESA is preparing future human activities around the Moon by using the International Space Station as a test-bed and participating in NASA’s Orion spacecraft for transporting astronauts. We are combining the strengths and capabilities of robotic and human explorers and making Europe an indispensable partner in future collaborative exploration missions.

The talk is the third out of a number of talks in English about "the Space journey – Denmark in Space”

When ESA astronaut Andreas Mogensen begins his journey to the International Space Station as the first Dane in space, the public is invited to a number of unique and free talks about Denmark and the international cooperation in space.

The talks are a result of cooperation between The Confederation of Danish Industry, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science.

The talks are held 5 to 6 p.m. on week days in the period 31 August to 11 September.

Registration cannot be made. The seats are allocated on a first come, first served basis so be there early. The venue seats 100 people.
