Video: A new generation of bio fuels

November 28, 2013
There is a great need to develop a new generation of biofuels that do not rely on the consumption of foodstuffs to create sustainable energy.

In recent years the price of fossil fuels – particularly oil – has risen. At the same time it is a political goal to reduce CO2 emissions from our energy consumption.

Biomass is used for a wide range of energy forms and is our greatest source of renewable energy. Its use takes place within the cogeneration (combined heat and power) and transport sectors. In order to utilize the full potential of biomass it is imperative that truly sustainable technologies be developed. Technologies which must separate the use of biomass for energy from the use of biomass for food.

In order to strengthen research in this area the Danish Council for Strategic Research has allocated 2.95 million Euros to the research centre Bio4Bio in the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Copenhagen.

The Danish Council for Strategic Research has produced this video as an audio-visual presentation of the research and the challenges of developing biotechnologies and biomasses to realise their great potential as technology and resource.
