Denmark signs student exchange agreement with South Korea
Danish students will now have the opportunity to apply for a free spot on a higher education programme in South Korea thanks to a new cooperative agreement. Danish higher education institutions are reciprocating and opening their doors to students from South Korea.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Seoul on 10 May 2016 by Permanent Secretary Agnete Gersing during a visit to the Korean education ministry. The MoU means that South Korea will open its Global Korea Scholarship Program (GKS) for Danish students, while Denmark will open its cultural agreements programme to Korean students.
Network for life
Minister for Higher Education and Science Ulla Tørnæs is pleased with the increased educational cooperation between Denmark and South Korea.
- I look forward to seeing talented Korean students at Danish educational institutions and that our Danish students can improve themselves by studying at universities in South Korea. Students can boost their knowledge by experiencing other education systems, and gain a network for life. International experience also makes Danish students more attractive to employers, says Ulla Tørnæs.
In addition to free study, students will also receive a monthly grant. Danish students will also have their return airline ticket to South Korea covered. Furthermore, students can avail of various summer activities. For example, Danish students can participate in an invitation and training programme at Korean universities, and cultural and industry site visits. They will live with a Korean family during their stay.
Korean students will have access to a Danish language and culture summer course, which will be offered at a number of course locations around Denmark.
About the cultural agreements programme
- The cultural agreements programme is a national scholarship programme that supports higher education student exchange and foreign students' participation in Danish language and culture summer courses.
- The programme is open to students from selected non-European countries. Egypt, Israel, Japan, China and Russia are currently participating in the programme. South Korean students can participate from the 2017/2018 application period.
