EU is ready with their reply to the evaluation of the research programme FP7

The European Commission has published it’s “reply” to the ex-post evaluation of the EU’s 7th Framework programme for science and technological development (FP7).

Among other things, the European Commission comments on how they intend to follow-up on the recommendations in the evaluation of the FP7, identified by an independent High Level Expert Group.

Prior to Christmas, an independent High Level Expert Group published their evaluations of the EU’s 7th Framework programme for research and innovation.

EU initiatives in the wake of the evaluation

The European Commission has now commented on the ecaluation and written how they intend to follow-up on the recommendations affecting the Horizon 2020 and future work.

The European Commission mentions the following initiatives:

  • The implementation of a new strategic focus for Horizon 2020 to maximise the contribution to ‘open innovation’, ‘open science’, and ‘open to the world’ (also known as the three O’s).
  • A maximisation of synergies between research and innovation arranged by thematic priorities in societal challenges and new, emerging digital and enabling technologies and infrastructures.
  • Exploring the need for, and the possibility for completion of, a European Innovation Council, as the mean to advance innovation and streamline existing instruments.
  • Evaluation of the Joint Technology Initiative (JTI) in regard to opennes, transparency and effectiveness in June 2017.
  • Facilitating the development of important projects of common, European interest, which can be deployed through research in more modern technologies.
