Denmark continues to be a leading European innovator
For the third year in a row, Denmark has only been surpassed by Sweden as the most innovative country in the EU, according to the latest ”European Innovation Scoreboard”, which is the annual European Commission report comparing and evaluating the research and innovation efforts in EU countries.

On the regional index, the Capital Region of Denmark (Region Hovedstaden) is ranked as the second-best region in the EU, only surpassed by the Stockholm region.
On a global level, the EU continues to be less innovative that South Korea, the US and Japan, and the European Commission characterises innovative growth in the EU as too slow. The Danish Government has recently concluded the same, and has highlighted the challenge of innovation as one of the key issues for Denmark in an early position paper for the next framework programme for research and innovation in the EU.
