93,388 people have applied for a place in higher education this year
The deadline for higher education applications was 12 noon today, and this year 93,388 applicants have submitted an application. This is a decrease of 1,216 applicants compared to last year, when there was a record number of applicants. A decrease of 1%, but even so the total number of applicants is the third highest ever.
- Last year was a special year, as the Coronavirus situation led to an exceptional number of applicants. But even though there has been a slight drop in the number of applicants this year, it is still very satisfying that so many people want to move on to higher education. Getting an education is, and always will be, one of the best investments you can make in your life. Our task as politicians is to ensure that education services are widely available throughout the country, so that the whole of Denmark can benefit from skills gained by students when they reach the end of their studies, comments the Minister for Higher Education and Science, Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen.
This year, the BA programme in Social Education is the most sought-after programme. It has received 5,644 first-priority applicants spread across the 23 institutions throughout the country that offer this study programme. The bachelor programme in Nursing has attracted the second highest number applicants. It has 4,703 first-priority applicants. The degree programme with the third highest number of applicants is medicine: It has 4,615 first-priority applicants this year.
