DFiRbrief 46: Strengthen Denmark's participation in European research and innovation programs

EU's research programs enhance the quality of Danish research and innovation, but more can be done to strengthen incentives for Danish participation. This is the focal point of the conference to be held on April 19, 2024, at Christiansborg. DFiRbrief 46 is a contribution to the debate.

It is beneficial for Danish research and innovation, as well as for Denmark's economy, that universities, companies, and other knowledge institutions participate in European competition and subsequent collaboration. Danish universities secure more EU funds than most universities in the EU, but private companies and non-commercial research institutions secure fewer funds than many of their counterparts in the EU. Danish R&D can be strengthened if the portion of the expected EU funding obtained by Danish researchers and companies, which exceeds Denmark's contribution, is not deducted from the public research budget or returned to the Danish R&D system.
