Danish municipalities face significant challenges in maintaining and developing high-quality welfare solutions. DFIR recommends strengthening the interaction between research and practice to create more sustainable and effective welfare solutions that benefit citizens.
Danish municipalities play a central role in delivering citizen-focused welfare, yet investments in research and innovation within this field remain modest. The Danish Council for Research and Innovation Policy (DFIR) sees great potential in a more systematic and closer collaboration between research and municipal practice. Strengthening this interaction would ensure that research can better inform municipal practice and, conversely, that practice can more effectively inform research. This approach can lead to smarter, more sustainable, and cost-effective welfare services for the benefit of citizens.
This brief, based on an extensive report from DFIR, presents six concrete recommendations on how municipalities can enhance their engagement in research-informed innovation.
