More students than last year accepted to higher education
During the night between Thursday and Friday, thousands of applicants will have one of their higher education choices accepted. The overall total for this year is 65,714 – the second highest ever. There is particularly more students accepted to programmes at academies of professional higher education, for example financial economics and computer science. 82 per cent have been accepted to their first priority programme.
Minister for Higher Education and Science Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen is pleased so many young people have been accepted to their chosen programme.
- It is great to see so many want to pursue an education. I hope they enjoy their studies, apply themselves, but also take chances and follow their curiosity. We need well-rounded people on our education programmes, says Minister for Higher Education and Science Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen.
Nursing education has accepted 7 per cent more students, which the minister was also pleased to see.
- I am very satisfied to see that more are pursuing a nursing education. We need each and every one to create a better and close health service. And we have also seen more nursing students accepted outside the major cities, which is good as we need talented nurses across Denmark, says Minister for Higher Education and Science Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen.
A number of higher education programmes support the green transformation and the minister is following them with interest.
- As a government, we have set ourselves a target of being the most climate ambitious government. We need students who dig deep into the green transformation and find new sustainable solutions. It is therefore a good sign that more students have been accepted to programmes like Bachelor's in Natural Resources and Sustainable Energy Design. There will be a lot of focus on the green transformation in the coming years, says Minister for Higher Education and Science Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen.
A total of 8,416 qualified applicants did not get their choice of study programme, which is fewer than last year when 9,765 qualified applicants were turned down.
- I am pleased that fewer have been rejected, but I can understand those who are disappointed. It should be remembered that a rejection is not an end. There are still many options to get started with education. You can see if there are available places on a programme similar to the one you applied for – maybe somewhere else in the country. Or you can supplement so you meet the requirements next year. There is always a way forward, says Minister for Higher Education and Science Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen.

1 September: Most programmes start (a number of programmes also have a start-up from 1 February).
October: Results of the 2nd round of admittance published and therefore the final admittance figures are tallied. Between the 1st and 2nd rounds, some applicants will reject offers while others will apply for available places.

There was a total of 88,757 applicants.
As of 26 July, 65,714 applicants were offered a place on a higher education programme.
Approx. 1/3 of those accepted are under 21. The age of those accepted has been at a relatively stable level for the last 6 years.

There was a total of 89,759 applicants.
As of 28 July, 64,943 applicants were offered a place on a higher education programme.
As of 1 October, 63,821 applicants had started a higher education programme.
