Please follow the instructions, which you will find below. They explain which documents to enclose and how to submit your application.

Please remember to sign the form when you have completed it.


How to apply

  1. Fill in the application form. Fields marked * are required. Please see below for details about filling in the fields.
  2. Sign the form.
  3. Enclose all of the required documentation. See the section on documentation below.
  4. Send the application by a) letter post or b) Digital Post,
    or hand in the application at Haraldsgade 53, Copenhagen Ø.

a) Letter post

Send to: Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science Haraldsgade 53, DK-2100 Copenhagen Ø.

If you send in original education documents, you should send them by registered post. We always return original education documents by registered post. Certified copies are normally returned by ordinary post.

b) Digital Post

If you have a Danish CPR number and NemID you can send your application by Digital Post, unless you are to submit original documents (see "Copies or original documents?" on the next page).

  1. Fill in and sign the application form.
  2. Scan the form followed by the documentation into a single PDF document not exceeding 9 MB.
  3. Log in to post.borger.dk using your NemID,
    or use this link Digital Post to the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science (new window, log in with NemID) and skip to step 7.
  4. Select "Skriv ny post".
  5. Click the search field and search for ”Styrelsen for Forskning og Uddannelse”.
  6. Select the recognition office: "Vur. og anerkendelse af udenlandske uddannelser".
  7. Attach the PDF document and send your message.

After applying

You will receive confirmation of your application within 14 days. We will contact you in case any information or documents are missing.

The assessment normally takes no more than two months from submitting all of the required documents. If you have a Danish CPR number and permanent residence in Denmark, you will receive the assessment as a pdf sent by Digital Post (unless you are exempt from Digital Post, in which case you get it by letter post).


Documentation

  • The assessment will be delayed if we have to ask for further information or documentation. It is therefore important that you carefully follow the documentation requirements below.
  • Please avoid stapling the documents in order to save us time when scanning your documents.
  • Please note that we conduct routine verification of foreign documents. Cases of fraud (including the use of documents belonging to another person) will be reported to the police.

Copies or original documents?

We normally accept copies. However, you are requested to include the original education documents if they are issued in one of the following countries. This is because it is often necessary to ask applicants for origi- nal documents from the countries mentioned in order to provide sufficient basis for our assessment.

  • DR Congo
  • Ethiopia

  • Sudan
  • Syria: Instead of original documents you can submit original legalised copies, i.e. copies with original certifications by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Expatriates and the ministry responsible for the pro- gramme in question.

China: Higher education: Copy of "verification report" for award of degree, issued by the China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC), and copies of your educational documents. Upper secondary education: Copy of "verification report" for award of certificate, issued by the China Higher Education Student Information and Career Center (CHESICC), and copies of your educational documents. Other education: Original educational documents.

Pakistan: Degree certificates issued in Pakistan need to be stamped by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). We only accept HEC stamps issued from February 2009 and onwards.

Required documents

  1. Diploma/certificate for each qualification that you want to have assessed. If you have more than one higher education qualification (e.g. a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree), please enclose all of the documents.

  2. Transcript for each qualification that you want to have assessed. If you are unable to provide the transcript, please list in your own words the subjects studied and passed.

  3. Translation of the diploma/certificate for each qualification that you want to have assessed, unless it is in Norwegian, Swedish, English, German, French, or Spanish.

  4. Translation of transcript for each qualification that you want to have assessed, unless it is in Norwegian, Swedish, English, German, French, or Spanish.

  5. If you have a Diploma Supplement, please enclose it.

  6. Prior diploma/certificate that enabled you to study for the qualification that is to be assessed.

  7. Proof of nationality: passport or ID card.

  8. Evidence of professional experience if you have worked as a teacher or educator, in or outside Denmark: e.g. references or labour book.

  9. Teacher certificate/letter of authorisation or other documentation by which you are entitled to work as a teacher or educator in the country of education. This only applies to countries issuing such certificates.

  10. If the name on any of the documents is different from the name you are currently using: Name change documentation, e.g. marriage certificate.

  11. If your qualifications have been assessed before: Former assessment(s) or recognition decision(s).

  12. If you have been granted professional rights to work as teacher in an EU or EEA country based on teaching qualifications obtained outside EU/EEA or Switzerland: Attestation that you have worked as a teacher in the Member State that recognised your qualifications from the non-Member State.

The Agency may ask you for further documentation of your qualifications, including original documents.

By signing the application you certify that the information given in the application is correct and that the enclosures are authentic documents relating to you. The Agency conducts routine verification of foreign documents. Cases of fraud (including the use of documents belonging to another person) will be reported to the police.

Power of attorney

If you want another person to communicate with the Agency about your application, you must give that person power of attorney to do so. The power of attorney must be dated and signed, containing the name, address, postal code and town, email address, phone number, civil registry number (if none: date of birth) of the person you have authorised to act on your behalf.

Translations

Documents in Norwegian, Swedish, English, French, German, and Spanish require no translation. Documents in other languages must be translated into Danish or one of the languages mentioned. As an applicant you are responsible for finding a translator.

Translations of diploma/certificate and transcript must normally have been made by or certified by one of the following:

  • a translator holding a Danish translator and interpreter's diploma (translatøreksamen)
  • embassy or consulate of the country where the original document was issued or the translation was made
  • a Danish embassy or consulate
  • the institution that issued the document.

Depending on a case-by-case assessment of the documents, we usually accept the following translations:

  • Translations made by a translator who has previously been used by the Danish legal system or other Danish public authorities, i.e. registered police interpreters or translators working on a regular basis for a municipal administration or another public authority
  • Translations made by the interpreter service of the Danish Refugee Council
  • Legalised translations
  • Notary-stamped translations.

We may also accept other translations on a case by case basis. If in doubt, please ask us.


Processing of your personal data

The Agency registers the information you provide in your application or afterwards, in order to process the application and to be able to answer any inquiries regarding the processing and assessment later.

The Agency may contact the educational institution or the relevant authority in the country of education to confirm your qualifications if you have consented to this in section 9 of the application form. Apart from the EU / EEA countries, Andorra, Argentina, the Faroe Islands, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, Israel, Jersey, New Zealand, Switzerland and Uruguay, the country of education does not necessarily have data security rules preventing information from reaching unauthorised persons.

You have the right to withdraw your consent. If you do so the Board may be unable to make the assessment you have applied for.

In some cases, the Agency asks an educational institution for an expert opinion. In that case, the Agency may disclose information about your education so that the educational institution can evaluate your qualifications.

If you get an assessment, the Agency passes information about you and the assessment on to Statistics Denmark, which uses the information for statistical purposes only.

The Agency processes the information in accordance with the Assessment of Foreign Qualifications Act (Consolidated Act No. 579 of 1 June 2014) and the Executive Order on Assessment of Foreign Qualifications (Order No. 602 of 25 June 2003).

Filling in the application form

1. Personal details

  • Previous name: Fill in if your name has changed since the documents were issued.
  • Danish civil registry no.: If you have no Danish civil registry number, please write your date of birth: day- month-year.
  • Street address, e.g. ”Main Street 12, 3rd floor”.
  • Any other address information: If, for example, your name is not on the door/letter box, please write “C/o” followed by the name that is.
  • Telephone number (daytime): A phone number where we can reach you during office hours (9h–16h).
  • Email: Please write your e-mail address very carefully.

2. Purpose

  • Tick the appropriate box to say which teaching profession(s) you are seeking recognition to practise. Please note that you can only apply for recognition to teach at the same level(s) that you are qualified to teach in another country. If you want to teach in general upper secondary school, you must also state which subject(s) you want to teach.
  • Prior assessment: Tick ”Yes” if you have received any written assessment of your qualification before from the Agency or from other bodies in Denmark or abroad. This also applies if you have been granted approval to teach outside your country of education.

3. Teaching qualification

If you have completed more than one teacher training programme, please add a copy of this part of the form.

  • Qualification: Name of the diploma/degree in the original language using Latin letters (ABCD etc.).
  • Educational institution: Name of the educational institution in the original language using Latin letters (ABCD etc.).
  • Subjects: Which subjects are you allowed to teach in the country where you qualified? If you are not trained to teach one or more specific subjects but are qualified to teach all subjects within a certain age range, please write: “All subjects”.
  • Official length of programme: How many years and months were officially required to complete the programme according to the curriculum, including any compulsory internships/periods of work practice?
  • Internship etc.: Did the programme include any compulsory period of teaching practice? If yes, mention the duration and place.
  • Thesis etc.: Did the programme include a thesis, dissertation or other large project? If yes, fill in title, nominal duration (months officially allotted for this work) and study points, if any.

4. Other higher education qualifications

University education or other studies that normally require at least an upper secondary school leaving certificate.

If you have completed more than two higher education programmes, please write the additional information on a copy of this part of the form.

  • Qualification: Name of the diploma/degree in the original language using Latin letters (ABCD etc.).
  • Educational institution: Name of the educational institution in the original language using Latin letters (ABCD etc.).
  • Nominal length of programme: How many years and months were officially required to complete the programme according to the curriculum, including any compulsory internships/periods of work practice?
  • Internship etc.: Did the programme include an internship or other practical training in a workplace? If yes, mention the duration and place.
  • Thesis etc.: Did the programme include a thesis, dissertation or other large project? If yes, fill in title, nominal duration (months officially allotted for this work) and study points, if any.

5. Professional experience as a teacher in or outside Denmark

Please list the periods of employment where you have worked as a teacher after completing your teaching qualification.

The information about your professional experience may influence the decision on recognition.

6. Additional information

Information about any other circumstances relevant to the assessment of your qualification, for example:

  • study periods completed at another institution
  • credit transferred from another institution
  • credit granted for professional experience.

7. Contact to authorities in the country of education

We ask you to accept that we may contact your educational institution or a relevant authority in the country where you obtained your qualification, in case we want to have confirmation of information about the qualification.

If your answer is no, you must state the reasons why.

8. Signature of the holder of the qualification

As a qualification holder you are asked to accept that the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science carries out an assessment of your qualifications, and you do this by signing the application form.

By signing the form you also certify that the information given in the application is correct and that the enclosures are authentic documents relating to you.
