Strategy for Research and Education concerning the Arctic
- Read the Arctic research and education strategy (in Danish)
- Follow the progress of implementing the action plan of the strategy
Denmark must strengthen its Arctic research, education and innovation. It is vital that we do so due to the dramatic changes that are currently taking place in the Arctic and because of the clear consequences of climate change. Research-based solutions and enhanced Arctic educational competences can help address the challenges that we face, as well as help us tap into new opportunities as they emerge. On these grounds, the Ministry of Higher Education and Science launched, in November 2016, a strategy for the Ministry’s work with regard to the Arctic. The objective is to strengthen Denmark’s, and by extension the Kingdom of Denmark’s, research and education in and about the Arctic. Strategic guidelines The strategy has three overall guidelines that cut across the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Science: research, education and innovation. Several of the guidelines overlap. This is a natural reflection of the fact that research, education and innovation form part of the same overall ecosystem.
The 3 guidelines:
- Research and education in and about the Arctic of high quality and relevance for society
- Denmark as a strong Arctic player and international collabaration partner
- Responsible and sustainable social development of the Arctic region
Within each of the strategic guidelines, the strategy moreover identifies several challenges and potentials, which the strategy addresses through a number of specific initiatives. The strategy’s chapter 7 presents a full overview of all the initiatives and action plan.
