European tools for mobility and transparency

A number of European mobility and transparency tools are available for documentation and recognition of qualifications.



Europass is a tool to document and encourage mobility and lifelong learning. Europass brings together into a single framework several existing tools for the transparency of diplomas, certificates and competences.

Portal on Learning and Qualifications in Europe

Portal on Learning and Qualifications in Europe is a European Internet portal aiming to help students, job seekers, workers, parents, guidance counsellors and teachers to attain information about studying in Europe. The portal provides information on learning opportunities and training possibilities available throughout the European Union.


EPALE logo

EPALE is a multilingual internet community for teachers, trainers, researchers, academics, policy makers and anyone else with a professional role in adult learning across Europe.


The European Credit and Accumulation Transfer System (ECTS) is based on a common scoring system, called ECTS credits, where a university credits is equivalent to 1 ECTS credit.


ECVET logo

The European Accumulations and Transfer Credit System for Vocational Education and Training (ECVET) is a system for transferring, recognising and capitalising upon the knowledge acquired through learning: knowledge, abilities and skills through European learning credits for vocational training and education.



The European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning (EQF) aligns national certification systems and facilitates communication between them.



Eurydice is an institutional network for gathering, monitoring, processing and circulating reliable and readily comparable information on education systems and policies throughout Europe.

ENIC and NARIC networks


The ENIC and NARIC networks serve to implement the Council of Europe's and UNESCO's Lisbon Recognition Convention and to develop policy and practice for the recognition of qualifications. The two networks cooperate closely.

Europe Direct

Europe Direct is a network that gives generel information about EU matters in any of the official EU languages, an answer to any question on European Union policy, contact details of relevant organisations you may need to deal with, and advice to help you overcome practical problems with exercising your rights in Europe.

eTwinning is an internet platform for teachers to communicate, collaborate, develop projects, share and be part of the learning community in Europe.
