The Danish Council for Research and Innovation Policy has decided to identify the reasons behind why Danish research has reach such a high level of performance (measuered as impact). DFiR has therefore set out to seek in-depth knowledge in order to answer the question: Why has Danish research developed from being mediocre in the 1980s to being excellent today?

The Danish Council for Research and Innovation Policy focus in this project on the Danish supportive innovation system, which has traditionally focused on the SMEs. . It is, uncertain whether this broad focus has been based on an analysis of potential target groups and if it has led to an efficient organization of the system. The council seeks to answer these questions in this project.

- Careers of researchers

The council has initiated a project examining the careers of researchers in industry and academia. DFiR is now assessing researchers’ career possibilities and strategies - both in terms of how they are attracted to career paths and how they develop their abilities, skills and strategies.

DFiR consist of a chairman and eight members appointed by the Danish minister for Higher Education and Research. The current council was appointed in april 2020 with Professor Frede Blaabjerg as chairman.

The Danish Council for Research and Innovation Policy (DFiR) was established on 1 April 2014. The Council was set up charged with the responsibility to provide policy makers with independent and expert advice on research, technological development and innovation.
The Danish Council for Research and Innovation Policy (DFiR) was set up charged with the responsibility to provide the Minister for Higher Education and Science and others with independent and expert advice on research, technological development and innovation at a system level. The responsibility comprises both the research policy and innovation policy advice, which was earlier placed on the Danish Council for Research Policy and the Danish Council for Technology and Innovation.
