Resumé

Additive manufacturing is already today emerging as an effective new paradigm for efficient production. So far additive manufacturing has been approached primarily from a process perspective.

New advances in material design open up new opportunities.

As an example in carbon fiber composites it is possible to embedded optical fibers to have material with embedded communication infrastructure or even computational substrates.

Such smart materials have a significant potential both in terms of new components for traditional companies such as Grundfos, Danfoss, B&O, … but also for new types of diagnostics for companies in the pharmaceutical sector or environmental monitoring. Denmark has a strong tradition in both manufacturing and material design.

There is a short time window to become a leader in this field.
